Viuz-la-Chiesaz

Viuz-la-Chiesaz is a small village in Haute Savoie in the Rhone Alps located about ten kilometers south of Annecy just after the villages of Quintal, Balmont and Vieugy (town of Seynod).

The village is part of the township of Alby sur Cheran and its inhabitants are called « Viulans ». Viuz-la-Chiesaz has more than 1200 “viulans”, rises to over 600 meters of altitude and covers 13.91 sq km .

Monuments and Sights

  • Gallo-Roman ruins, traces of Roman villa, and Gallic god statue.
  • Roman road crossing « Boutae-Aquae ».
  • Church Saint-Etienne neo-Romanesque 1903, restored late 20th century.
  • Font in a wall, all that remains of the priory (located right next to the church).
  • Chalet de L’Abbaye: Calvary.
  • Mount of Chatillon, culminating Semnoz. Orientation table and magnificent views.
  • Mount Tertère.
  • Caves of the « Fours »
