The La Plagne resort is located in the Tarentaise valley, in Savoie. It is part of the Paradiski ski area. 425 kilometers of slopes are accessible throughout the winter season, with 70% located above 2,000 meters.

La Plagne: 1 resort, 11 villages

La Plagne is a third-generation resort, known as integrated. Established in 1961, it now has 11 villages:

  • La Plagne Vallรฉe
  • La Plagne Montalbert
  • Plagne 1800
  • La Plagne Montchavin les Coches
  • Plagne Bellecรดte
  • Plagne Centre
  • Plagne Aime 2000
  • Plagne Villages
  • Plagne Soleil
  • Belle Plagne
  • La Plagne Champagny en Vanoise

These different villages are located in the municipalities of Aime-la-Plagne and La Plagne-Tarentaise. Each has its own personality, with some aimed at families, while others are perfect for party-goers. The choice of village will therefore depend on your situation and expectations. This is an element to consider when booking your ski trip.

Champagny en Vanoise, in the heart of the Vanoise National Park

traditional Savoie habitat - ยฉ M. PitteloudThe Champagny le Haut valley represents an entrance to the Vanoise National Park. This park was created in 1963 following the disappearance of an iconic mountain animal, the ibex. The Vanoise National Park straddles the Tarentaise and Maurienne regions, on the Vanoise massif.

It is worth noting that the hamlet of Champagny le Haut hosts a cross-country ski area in winter and is the starting point for many hikes in summer. This natural site showcases traditional habitats made from wood and stone.

The ski area of La Plagne

La Plagne is part of the Paradiski ski area, which includes Les Arcs. It is therefore possible to ski on 425 kilometers of slopes, with 22% located in the forest and 70% above 2000 meters. The quality of the snow cover is excellent throughout the winter. The La Plagne resort alone has 225 kilometers of alpine ski slopes, distributed as follows:

  • 18 black
  • 35 red
  • 74 blue
  • 8 green

Paradiski can be crossed using blue slopes, making the entire area accessible to skiers of all levels.

Winter sports

Alpine skiing is not the only sport to enjoy during a stay in La Plagne. The resort has 186 km of slopes dedicated to cross-country skiing and 40 km of marked trails for ski touring. We also recommend trying bobsleigh. The track is the only one in France and will give you new sensations. The most challenging part is launching into this 1,500-meter descent with its 19 turns.

If you prefer more classic activities, we recommend:

The athletes of the resort

La Plagne is a major supplier of athletes, not just in alpine skiing. It is generally the most represented resort at the Winter Olympics. Here are four athletes who have made their mark on their generation.

Julien Lizeroux

Julien Lizeroux is a former member of the French alpine skiing team. Specializing in slalom, he made his World Cup debut in 1997. Although several injuries marked his career, it remains impressive. He has several podium finishes, including second places at the 2009 World Championships. He also won the slaloms in Kranjska Gora and Kitzbรผhel during the 2009-2010 season. Julien Lizeroux is now a consultant for sports channels.

Romain Heinrich

Before turning to bobsleigh, Martin Heinrich was considered one of France’s best shot putters. In 2011, he decided to take a new direction in his sporting life. He then joined the French bobsleigh team and went to the Sochi Olympics. He later became a pilot and finished 13th at the Pyeongchang Olympics with his teammate, Dorian Hauteville.

Margot Boch

Margot Boch specializes in 2-man bobsleigh and monobob. This former gymnast, after transitioning to luge, moved to bobsleigh. She was quickly spotted and joined the French team, of which she has been the pilot since 2018. In 2022, she participated in the Beijing Olympics and finished first in the European Cup in Innsbruck.

Kรฉvin Rolland

If there is one skier from La Plagne who needs no introduction, it is Kรฉvin Rolland. A multiple winner of the X Games and an Olympic medalist, the Frenchman has also experienced many falls. However, they did not prevent him from returning to the highest level. At the 2022 Olympics, he was a flag bearer alongside Tessa Worley.

The must-see events in La Plagne

Events are organized every year in the La Plagne resort. We invite you to discover the two main ones.

The Super Slalom

In a few numbers, the Super Slalom features: 320 gates, 4 km of slope, and starts every 30 seconds. The race takes place at the end of the ski season, making it an opportunity to relax and have a good time with friends.

Costumes are more than recommended.

Xplore Alpes Festival

Xplore Alpes festival poster 2022The Xplore Alpes Festival is an event that takes place within the two communities of Haute Tarentaise and the Versants d’Aime. In addition to La Plagne, it involves 11 other villages.
