The Gorges du Fier

The Gorges du Fier are located west of Annecy, 10 km from the town of Lovagny. This natural and touristic place is one of the most beautiful in the Alps. The gorges built by the Fier represent a narrow and spectacular canyon that you can visit and follow thanks to a footbridge at more than 25 metres from the water. An unforgettable spectacle.

Discover a spectacular canyon 25 metres above the water

The Fier gorges have been open to the public since 1869. The footbridge is 252 m long and is suspended 25 m above the bridge. You can discover many giant potholes inside a huge parade. Light plays a special role depending on the time of day and the amount of sunlight. A scale measures the level of the river and indicates the dates of major floods. You can also discover on a panel the different legends that the site has kept in the imagination.

At the end of the visit, you can admire the “Sea of Rock” made up of enormous blocks of stone which are geological curiosities such as the chaos of blocks and the convection niches. At this point, the Fier becomes calm again and flows gently. On the way out, you can discover a bar-restaurant and souvenirs of your visit.
